Flow was created by NBA Top Shot Developer, Dapper Labs who also created CryptoKitties. It is a proof of stake blockchain built to support NFT collectibles and crypto games. It is designed to be fast, secure and developer friendly and is deemed to be a foundation for entire ecosystems of dApps targeting the next generation of crypto games. The Flow blockchain was conceived after Ethereum faced huge scalability issues during the CryptoKitties hype and the Flow team felt that shards and sidechains were not compatible for apps that strive for performance.

Cadence, the programming language for Flow, uses an interpreted programming language which although more flexible than compiled programs, such as Ethereum’s, Solidity, it has a serious drawback due to a lower execution speeds.
